I’m new to symphonic music. Where can I learn more about it?

The best option for getting the most out of the music you will hear at our performances is to go to the concert one hour prior to the performance.  Our conductor, Brad Lambrecht, always does a talk about what to listen for in the pieces of the concert.  This easy-to-understand discussion will give you insight into the pieces and guide your listening in the concert.

Where is the best place to sit for a concert?

The best seat for you depends on what you want to get out of the concert!  There is not really a bad seat anywhere in the Alexandria Area High School Performing Arts Center, but if you'd like to see more of the musicians, we suggest choosing the balcony.

When should I clap at a concert?

Many newcomers are nervous about when to clap at a classical music concert because our traditions are different from most other events. While we would love for you to clap at ALL of your favorite parts, please hold your applause for the end of a piece. This helps us make sure that all the subtlety and nuance that our orchestra plays with can be enjoyed by everybody. Some pieces have multiple movements within them. These will be listed on the screens at the concert and in the programs. It is tradition to hold applause until the end of the final movement. If you are unsure, you can always take a cue from the rest of the audience.
